In response to the current COVID-19 event, pursuant to La. R.S. 23:184.1 the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) will begin issuing sixty (60) day blanket Employment Certificates for employers desiring to employ minors in the State of Louisiana. Employment Certificates issued due to this event shall expire sixty (60) days from the date of issuance. Upon expiration, employers will be required to obtain Employment Certificates as required pursuant to La. R.S. 23:181 et. seq.

Employers desiring to obtain an Employment Certificate pursuant to this memorandum must submit a completed and signed “Application to Employ Minors under 18” along with proof of age to laborprograms@lwc.la.gov. The application can be downloaded from the Louisiana Workforce Commission’s website or by copying and pasting the following web address into your web browser: http://www.laworks.net/Downloads/WFD/MinorApplicationToEmployForm.pdf. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Employers should allow three (3) days for processing.

When the application has been approved, the employer will be notified via email from the LWC Office of Workforce Development. The names of those minors who are approved to work pursuant to the Employment Certificate will also be attached to the email. As indicated, blanket Employment Certificates are effective for a maximum of sixty (60) days. Blanket Employment Certificates are not transferable. Certificates are required to be kept at the minor’s work location.

To file a return, we strongly encourage taxpayers to electronically file returns by utilizing the following sites; Parish E-file or Sales Tax Online. Taxpayers who need to drop off a return to our office, may utilize our drop box located in the back of the St. Martin Parish School Board Administration Building (600 Corporate door. Please ensure company name and account number are on all contents being placed in the drop box. DO NOT PUT CASH IN THE DROP BOX! Checks and money orders accepted.

Free Online Learning Sites

Parents, the term “summer slide” refers to students regressing or forgetting some information learned during the school year while out of school for the summer months. In an effort to reduce the opportunity for regression/slide due to the current school closures mandated by Governor Edwards, St. Martin Parish has provided a list of free online resources for parents to use with students. Students will not receive grades on the online practice work completed, but with the possibility of testing still taking place upon their return, it is important to keep students actively engaged in learning during this mandated closure. Virtual Tutor for EOC Courses

All high school students currently enrolled in EOC courses could continue to practice their coursework through Edgenuity Virtual Tutor courses. To access the courses, please email Ms. Kellie LeBlanc at kellie_leblanc@saintmartinschools.org.

Virtual Learning Program

Since we cannot have weekly testing at this time, all Virtual Learning students can stop working on their coursework until later notice or until school resumes.
